ABOUT THE EVENT

Chamber Concert at the Bezisten: Béla Bartók’s Violin Sonatas

On 23 September 2026 at 5:30 PM, the Bezisten Hall in Yambol will host a chamber concert featuring violinist Krasimira Sultanova and pianist Anzhela Tosheva.

The musicians will perform two sonatas for violin and piano by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881–1945). The programme was previously presented at the Bulgaria Chamber Hall during the Sofia Music Weeks international festival and will now be performed in Yambol.

Programme

Béla Bartók – Violin Sonata No. 1, BB 84 (1921)

Béla Bartók – Violin Sonata No. 2, BB 85 (1922)

Both sonatas were dedicated to violinist Jelly d’Arányi, who performed their premieres with the composer in London and Paris in 1922 and 1923, respectively.

The First Sonata is a three-movement work characterised by complex harmonies, striking dissonances and demanding parts for both instruments.

The Second Sonata consists of two interconnected movements, combining Bartók’s experimental musical language with influences from Eastern European folk music.

Join us at the Bezisten Hall for an evening of twentieth-century chamber music.
