Bezisten
Yambol Bezisten is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks and a remarkable example of Ottoman architecture. Built in the early 16th century, this historic covered market stands in the heart of Yambol and has become one of the city’s architectural symbols.
Over the centuries, the Bezisten has undergone several reconstructions and changes of use while preserving its important place in the history of Yambol. In 1972, it was declared a cultural monument of national significance, and during restoration work carried out between 1970 and 1973, two construction periods were identified, with a maximum chronological difference of around 50 years.
After an extensive renovation completed in 2015, the Bezisten reopened as a modern cultural and information centre with an interactive museum. Today, its historical heritage is presented through multimedia installations, museum exhibits and 3D visualisations that introduce visitors to the history of Yambol and the region.
Beyond its role as a museum, the Bezisten is also an active cultural venue. Exhibitions, concerts, educational initiatives, forums and other events are held here throughout the year, making the building an important part of Yambol’s contemporary cultural life.
A visit to the Bezisten is one of the best ways to begin exploring Yambol. Its central location makes it an excellent starting point for discovering other landmarks in the city centre.
