Yambol Mineral Baths

Yambol Mineral Baths is one of the city's most distinctive historic buildings and a remarkable example of early modernist architecture associated with the development of public baths.

Its history began in 1933, when a mineral water source was discovered at a depth of around 6.5 metres in the area of the present-day City Park. The discovery encouraged the municipality to build a public bath and make use of the mineral water.

Modernism of the 1930s

The building was designed by architect Alexander Kurtev. Construction began in the late 1930s and was completed in 1936, initially opening with a men's section, followed by the women's section the following year.

After its official opening in 1938, the Mineral Baths quickly became a popular place among the residents of Yambol. The building included individual mineral baths, steam and ordinary showers, a swimming pool, changing rooms, medical rooms and a terrace for sunbathing.

Part of Yambol's history

Over the years, the Mineral Baths became one of Yambol's most recognisable landmarks. The building also preserves ceramic decorative panels associated with public events and military parades held in the city in 1937.

After the bath ceased operating, the building continued to be used for other purposes. In 1975, it was designated a cultural monument of local significance.
