Museum of Combat Glory
The Museum of Combat Glory is one of the most interesting places to visit in Yambol and Bulgaria’s only specialised municipal military museum. Located in the former military barracks of the city’s 29th Infantry Regiment, the museum tells the story of Yambol’s military history and the units that were stationed here.
The museum was officially opened on 9 May 2013. Its grounds include the restored Monument to the Fallen of the 29th Yambol Infantry Regiment, erected in 1928 in memory of the soldiers and officers from Yambol who lost their lives in the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
The collection presents Bulgarian military history through original uniforms, weapons, medals and decorations, documents, photographs and other artefacts. Particular attention is given to the military units associated with Yambol, including the 29th Yambol Infantry Regiment, the 4th Cavalry Regiment and the 3rd Pioneer Regiment.
One of the highlights of the open-air exhibition is its collection of restored military equipment. Among the exhibits are a Panzer IV tank, a Sturmgeschütz III assault gun and the rare Jagdpanzer IV L/48 tank destroyer. According to Yambol Municipality, the latter is one of only six preserved examples of its type.
The Museum of Combat Glory offers visitors an opportunity to explore different aspects of Bulgarian military history through authentic objects and restored military equipment.
Especially interesting is the collection of German armoured vehicles dating from the Second World War. The museum’s open-air exhibition is complemented by displays of weapons, uniforms, photographs, documents, medals and personal belongings.
The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, educational initiatives and historical events, making it not only a place of remembrance but also an active centre for preserving and presenting Yambol’s military heritage.
